What is Fold the Apartment?

Fold the Apartment is a paper folding puzzle made by the Revoba studio. It is free to play in the browser, with no download or sign-up. Languages: Turkish. It is currently an early build.

Fit a three-storey Aegean apartment into a moving box with two hinges. Fold without spilling the tea, dropping the sofa or leaving a window open. 10 hand-written levels, a daily level and endless free play.

Rooms are rigid paper cassettes that protect what's inside; two hinges snap to 0, 90 and 180° stops in opposite directions. Floor thickness and collisions are really computed; animation never changes the result. Finished buildings join a street album; the before/after card downloads as a 1080×1080 PNG and a challenge link opens the same level for a friend.

Tips for Fold the Apartment

  1. Stop the tea floor at 90°, secure the tray, then continue.
  2. Close windows before the floor shuts; they won't open later.
  3. Hinge order matters: roof first, then middle floor works in most levels.

What do the 10 levels of Fold the Apartment teach?

The 10 levels of Fold the Apartment are short moves, each adding one rule. The game is in Turkish; level names below are translated. Level 1, "Upstairs neighbour first", teaches you to start with the roof and takes 2 moves. "We forgot the window" adds an open window, and "Tea break" adds securing a tray at the 90° stop. In "The sofa is coming too" the sofa slides, and you must close the rail latch.

In level 5, "Downstairs neighbour this time", the lock is reversed and the middle floor folds first. Later levels combine these rules. "An unfinished move" starts with the roof already at 90°. The last level, "The last house on the street", has the sofa, a window and tea all at once. After the first, levels take 3 to 7 moves.

This paper folding game keeps going after level 10. The daily level is chosen by the Istanbul date. Free play builds new houses with names like Bougainvillea Apartments, Blue Shutter, Lemon Mansion or Geranium Palace. A search algorithm solves every generated house, and any layout that needs fewer than 3 moves is thrown out.

How is folding calculated in Fold the Apartment, and how was the Aegean house drawn?

In Fold the Apartment every room is a rigid paper cassette that protects what is inside. A cassette is 3 units wide, 1.42 high and 0.34 thick. A safe gap of 0.10 units is kept between floors. Every allowed move is scanned in 1-degree steps. If the thicknesses would clash, the game tells you to try the other hinge.

The folding motion is computed in steps of 1/240 of a second. A floor that carries another room turns more heavily. As the tilt grows the sofa slides along a rail, and closing the latch straps it in place. The tea tray sits in a counterweighted swivel, so the glasses stay upright. When the floor speeds up, the tray swings by at most 4 degrees and settles at the stop. The building folds on a model stand fixed to the floor.

When you pack, a moving harness lifts the building and the box slides underneath. The flaps stay open until the building rests on the bottom. All the art is SVG drawn for this project. Paper-cut residents, kraft edges, ultramarine shutters, tiled floors, geraniums and bougainvillea give it an Aegean feel. The sounds are short tones generated in the browser.
