How to play Daily Sudoku

Every row, every column and every 3×3 box contains each digit from 1 to 9 exactly once. Tap an empty cell, then tap a digit below; given digits are dark, yours are blue. Not sure? Turn on the pencil and write candidate digits as small notes; when you place a digit, matching notes in its row, column and box are cleared automatically. Stuck? Tap the bulb: the game explains which technique works in one sentence and highlights the cells; "Apply" writes the digit or removes the notes. You get 3 explained hints a day and never watch an ad for one. Modes: Daily Sudoku (easy, medium, hard), Campaign (10 seasons × 50 levels, a boss at the end of each season) and Free play (pick a difficulty, unlimited).

Controls: Select a cell by tapping or clicking, then write with the digit keys below. The pencil toggles notes, Erase clears a cell, Undo takes back the last move. On a physical keyboard 1-9 write digits, arrow keys move, 0 or Delete erases, N toggles notes, H asks for a hint, U undoes and P pauses.

Tips for Daily Sudoku

  1. Scan the boxes first: find a missing digit, check where it already sits in the crossing rows and columns, and if only one empty cell remains you have found a hidden single.
  2. Hard puzzles stall without notes. Write all candidates; when two cells can only take the same two digits (naked pair), remove those digits from the rest of the unit.
  3. Use hints to learn techniques, not to get answers: read the sentence, look at the highlighted cells, then write the digit yourself instead of tapping Apply. Next time you'll spot the pattern on your own.

How to solve sudoku: from naked single to X-wing

The secret of sudoku is elimination, not guessing. Work out which digits cannot go in a cell and a single candidate remains; that is a naked single, and easy sudoku usually finishes on singles alone. The second basic technique is the hidden single: if a missing digit has only one possible cell in a row, column or box, it goes there. Medium puzzles bring pointing pairs; when a digit's candidates in a box all lie on one row, the digit is removed from that row outside the box. A naked pair is two cells that can only take the same two digits, and those digits are removed from the rest of the unit. Hard sudoku asks for triples, X-wing and Y-wing; in an X-wing a digit confined to the same two columns in two rows is removed from the rest of those columns. The hint engine in Daily Sudoku thinks in exactly this order and describes each step in the same sentences, so a hint works less like an answer key and more like a teacher.

The daily sudoku habit and the campaign

The daily sudoku habit rests on a simple idea: everyone solves the same puzzle on the same day and compares time and mistakes. Daily Sudoku offers three puzzles a day: easy sudoku with the morning coffee, medium at lunch, hard sudoku in the evening. Solving one keeps the day streak alive, completing all seven days earns the full-week badge, and a broken streak carries no penalty; a new one starts the next day. For the long haul there is the campaign: ten seasons from First Steps to Legend, fifty levels each. Levels are ordered by the techniques they require; the first seasons are solved with singles only, the middle seasons teach pairs and pointing, the last seasons demand X-wing and trials. A boss puzzle stands at the end of every season and beating it earns a badge. Levels are rated one to three stars, and stars come only from solving with few hints and mistakes. Because every puzzle ships with the game, it also works offline; to solve sudoku, a browser is all you need.

Where to play Daily Sudoku

Daily Sudoku: frequently asked questions

Is it free to play sudoku here?

Yes. There are no purchases, coins or waiting timers. Daily puzzles are ad-free; in the campaign an interstitial appears only after a level, and rarely.

When does the daily sudoku refresh?

At midnight in your device's local time. Everyone solves the same easy, medium and hard puzzle on the same day.

How do hints work?

A hint explains which digit goes in which cell and why, in one sentence, and highlights the cells. You get 3 explained hints per day; after that a hint only shows the digit and is counted. No ads are required.

How is difficulty decided?

By the techniques a solution needs: singles are easy, pointing pairs and pairs are medium, triples and X-wing are hard, puzzles that need a trial are expert. Every puzzle has one solution.

Will I lose my progress?

Progress, statistics and streaks are stored in your browser and continue on the same device and browser. A half-finished puzzle reopens where you left it.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes; it is designed for portrait phones and runs full screen on tablets and desktops too. Nothing to install, it opens in the browser.
